Managing Director

Dr. Mohd. Hariffin has a Masters in Electricity Production and a PhD in Fuel and Energy from University of Leeds, United Kingdom. Prior to his appointment as Managing Director, he was the General Manager in Generation & Environment at TNB Research Sdn. Bhd.

Dr. Hariffin has more than 28 years of experience in the electricity supply industry, covering various aspects of the industry i.e. in fuel handling & management, power plant operation, education & training, and research & development. 

Dr. Harifin is an active member of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) Industry Advisory Panel for both Bachelor and Master of Mechanical Engineering programs.  He is also a member of the Research Expert Panel, Workshop for Mission Oriented Research (MOR) – Hybrid Energy System for Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS.


Chief Strategy Officer

Aznan Ezraie Ariffin has a BEng from Imperial College, London, MSc and PhD from University of Manchester (previously UMIST) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He also spent 8 months at University of California at Berkeley, California as an exchange researcher. He attended selected MBA programs with University of Melbourne in 2016.

Aznan has 21 years working experience in various areas and departments in Tenaga Nasional including planning, operations, research and international business. He was seconded as Vice President (Investments) to the Investment Division of Khazanah Nasional in year 2014-2015, part of the team in the execution of transaction strategy, due diligence and evaluation activities in the power sector. He was the Special Officer (Technical) to the CEO of TNB in year 2004-2009 responsible for advising on engineering and technology matters, and was also part of the first committee developing the Malaysian Grid Code with Suruhanjaya Tenaga, and the Incentive Based Regulation for Grid System Operator.

His last assignment was as a Head of Emerging Technologies at TNBX, a TNB subsidiary specialising in Behind-the-Meter (BTM) products and services for customers. He was responsible for the solar PPA product and SARE contract (80MWp+ signed as of Feb 2021). He has been an Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) for Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) since 2015, was an Adjunct Faculty at UNITEN, and has conducted many lectures and talks in public and academic settings, and has written peer-reviewed papers for conferences such as IEEE, CIGRE, CEPSI and IEM.


General Manager (Generation & Environment)

Ir. Dr. Hazha Abdul Hamid received his BSc. in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, USA. He also holds a Master in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia focusing on floating structure design. Before he was appointed as General Manager of Generation & Environment, Ir. Dr. Hazha was the Head of Product Development & Commercialization at TNB Research.

He started his journey with Tenaga Nasional Berhad in 1992 and has obtained more than 29 years of working experience in various areas and departments related to research, operation and maintenance of power plants. Connaught Bridge Power Station was his first workplace during his early involvement as the Maintenance & Shift Engineer. He then working at Cameron Highlands Hydro Power Station for 6 years as Senior Maintenance Engineer. In 2002, he associates himself in the research field and started as a senior researcher then promoted to a principal researcher for Generation Unit after 13 years working in that field. He once plays a big role in human resource field as the Senior Manager of People Sourcing in TNB Human Resource Group. His working experience in various areas, leads him to be appointed as the Head of Product Development & Commercialization. He manages pre-commercialization and commercialization activities on TNBR research & development products and services.

Ir. Dr. Hazha is a Corporate Member of Institute of Engineer Malaysia (IEM) and a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM). He also has experience as a permanent SIRIM Working Committee for rotating machinery and associated equipment allied with hydropower development and panel for MOSTI technology fund.


General Manager (Transmission & Distribution)

Ir. Dr. Sheikh Kamar has a Phd. in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia and Masters in Real Time Electronic System from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom.  Prior to his appointments as General Manager of Transmission and Distribution on 6th May 2019, Dr. Sheikh Kamar was the Head of Power System research group.

For the past 21 years working in TNB Research, Dr. Sheikh Kamar dedicated himself as researcher and project manager whom leads the research and development activities plus services for many TNB’s transmission and distribution projects, focusing on distribution network feeder automation, grid system-wide coordinated voltage control and power system stability aspect especially on real-time wide area measurement, monitoring, protection, automation and control [WAMPAC] system.

Ir. Dr. Sheikh Kamar is also a recipient of several awards and recognition, for instance the Best Researcher Award in 2014 and two TNB Harvest Awards for R&D Project in 2010 and 2014 respectively.

Before joining TNB Research in 1997, he has worked for SIRIM Berhad in 1992 and Telekom R&D Department focusing on system automation and security based R&D projects.

Ir. Dr. Sheikh Kamar is a Corporate Member of Institute of Engineer Malaysia (IEM) and Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate registered with the Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM).


General Manager (TNB Labs Sdn Bhd)

Dr. Ir. Ahmad Basri Abd. Ghani received his B.Eng. (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southampton, UK in 1992. Upon graduation, he worked with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (Malaysia) as the Operational & Maintenance (O&M) Engineer in Distribution Network. In 1998, he obtained his M.Eng in Engineering Management from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). In 2008, he obtained his PhD in Engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional.

In year 2000, he joined TNB Research as the Technical Manager for the TNBR High Voltage Laboratory. In year 2008, he became the Senior Manager of the High Voltage Diagnostic Cable unit. His main interest areas are High Voltage Engineering, power cable design & diagnostic, and electrical asset management. In year 2019, he was appointed as the General Manager of the TNB Laboratory (TNB LABS), a full subsidiary of TNB Research.

Dr. Ir. Ahmad Basri Abd. Ghani was appointed as Adjunct Professor in Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia, Melaka (UTEM), and was a member of Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) (Electrical & Electronic) for the INTI International University & UNITEN (Dept. of Electrical Eng.) Dr. Ir. Ahmad Basri Abd. Ghani is a registered Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate registered with the Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM).


Chief Financial Officer

Prior to joining TNBR, Rohaiza was the Head of Project Management Office (PMO), TNB Global Business Solutions (TGBS).

She started her career with TNB in 1991 and has more than 26 years of working experience in Financial and Management Accounting serving TNB divisions at Group Finance, Distribution, Retails, Audit, and TGBS.

Rohaiza holds a degree in Accountancy from Lincoln University, New Zealand and Post Graduate Certified Professional Accounting from Victoria University, New Zealand.

She is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA)


Head (People & Business Support) 

Dahari began his career in TNB Research as a Human Resource Manager.  He was responsible for the formulation of company’s HR strategy and policies to ensure high employee engagement and productivity.  He was also instrumental in developing the Terms and Condition of Services for TNB Research.  In 2013, he was appointed to his current position.

Dahari holds a degree in Bachelor of Business Administration (Majoring in Human Resource Management) from Universiti Utara Malaysia.


Head (ICT Research)

Qadafi started his career at TNBR as a Senior Researcher in 2010. He was involved in several key projects such as Skunk project and responsible for all automation projects as well as the company’s ICT infrastructure.

Qadafi holds a degree in Computer Science from University Technology Malaysia and Masters in IT-Majoring in Networking from Universiti Tenaga Nasional.
