Chief Strategy & Ventures Officer, TNB


Datuk Fazlur Rahman bin Zainuddin holds the position of Chief Strategy and Ventures Officer, TNB. He leads the development and implementation of the long-term strategy for TNB, incorporating the energy transition trends and the Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) agenda. His responsibility also includes searching for, identifying and evaluating new business areas to venture, exploring innovation, and guiding TNB Research, a subsidiary of TNB, to research fields relevant to TNB Business.


Professor & Director, Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)

Prof Dato’ Dr Kamaruzzaman Sopian graduated with the BS Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1985, the MS in the Energy Resources University of Pittsburgh in 1989 and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Dorgan Solar Laboratory, the University of Miami-Coral Gables in 1997.

He is currently the Professor of Renewable Energy and Director of the Solar Energy Research Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.  His main contributions in renewable energy are in advanced solar photovoltaic systems (solar-powered regenerative fuel cell, solar hydrogen production) and advanced solar thermal systems (solar cooling, solar heat pump, solar-assisted drying, combined photovoltaic thermal or hybrid collector).

Before joining Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1986 he was a National Electrical Board (NEB) scholar and served as an assistant boiler engineer with the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Power Station, Kapar, Kelang. He is the Joint Vice Chairman of the World Renewable Energy Network, United Kingdom.  He was appointed as Honorary Professor at Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL).  He was conferred the Darjah Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Perak (DPMP) by His Royal Highness The Sultan of Perak in 2013. He is a registered Professional Technologist (Green Technology) with the Board of Technologists Malaysia (BEM). A Fellow of the Malaysia Academy of Sciences (FSc) and listed in the Highly Cited Researchers, Web of Science Group, Clarivate Analytics.


Executive Director/Chief Technical Officer, MTC Group

Ir. Dr. Norshah is currently the Executive Director & Chief Technical Officer of MTC Group of Companies. He received his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nottingham, UK in 2001, before continuing to pursue his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the same University, completing in 2004. He recently completed his MBA study at the University of the West of Scotland in 2021. Dr. Norshah is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered under the Engineering Council (UK) since 2010 and a Professional Engineer (PEng) under the Board of Engineers Malaysia since 2011. Dr. Norshah has 20 years of experience as an academician, an industry practitioner, and an entrepreneur. He served for a number of years at University Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), TNB Research, and Lloyds Register before deciding to focus on the MTC Group of Companies which he co-founded in 2009. His current role at MTC Group involves overseeing new technology development and their applications for MTC’s business. He is also active in R&D and engineering education, where he serves as industry advisors for a mechanical engineering degree and postgraduate programs at a number of local universities.


Head (Asset Management Strategy, Design and Standard), Distribution Network Division, TNB

Encik Rumaizi bin Hamid has more than 30 years of experience in the Distribution System. Current responsibility includes building up Distribution Network infrastructure, managing major projects for 33kV, preparing Asset Development to be an SBU and Identify, evaluate and introduce new technologies for use in the distribution network. He was a pioneer team in establishing the CBM framework for TNB Distribution and was responsible for managing Engineering Evaluation Practices in TNBD.


Head (Asset Development), TNB Power Generation Sdn. Bhd.

Encik Ahmad Faraid bin Mohd Yahaya joined LLN/TNB on 1 September 1982. He has served LLN/TNB in various capacities within the Generation Division since 1982 as an Assistant Electrical Maintenance Engineer, Construction Engineer, Project Engineer/Head of Matrix for Control & Instrumentation Section in Prai and Kapar Power Stations. He also has served TNB as the Engineering Manager and Project Manager for the 3 x 700 MW Manjung Coal-Fired Power Plant Project and as Project Director for Lahad Datu Coal-Fired Power Plant Project.


Head (Grid Development), Grid Division, TNB

Ir. Dev Anandan received his BSc. In Electrical Engineering (Hons) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.  He also holds a Master’s degree in Engineering Management (M.E.M) from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) in 2006. He started his journey with Lembaga Letrik Negara/Tenaga Nasional Berhad in 1988 and has obtained more than 33 years of working experience in various areas and departments related to Operation & Maintenance, Asset Development and Asset Management. Ir. Dev is a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM) since 1997.


Head (Strategy & Sustainability), Strategy & Ventures Division, TNB

Ir. Dr. Mohd Fadzil bin Mohd Siam is currently the Head (Strategy & Sustainability) at Strategy & Ventures Division, TNB. Before that, he was the Managing Director of TNB Research Sdn. Bhd. and he has been leading and involved in various innovation and technology initiatives including smart city & smart grid issues, power quality, energy storage, network efficiency and renewable energy.

He graduated from the University of Southampton in the field of Electrical Engineering in 1994. He obtained his PhD in 1998 from Heriot-watt University, Edinburgh and MBA from UNITEN-Melbourne Business School in 2018. He has been working with TNB and TNB Research undertaking various technical and managerial tasks.  He is a registered professional engineer with Board Engineers Malaysia and Institute of Engineers Malaysia. He contributes to various national standard development committees, professional technical committees and working groups. He is currently appointed as Adjunct Professor at UNITEN and has also contributed as departmental Industry Advisory Panel at UNITEN, UKM and UPM.


Managing Director, TNB Research Sdn. Bhd.

Dr. Mohd Hariffin bin Boosroh has a Masters in Electricity Production and a PhD in Fuel and Energy from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom. Before he was appointed as Managing Director, he was the General Manager in Generation & Environment at TNB Research Sdn. Bhd.

He has more than 28 years of experience in the electricity supply industry, covering various aspects of the industry i.e. in fuel handling & management, power plant operation, education & training, and research & development.  He is an active member of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) Industry Advisory Panel for both Bachelor and Master of Mechanical Engineering programs.  He is also a member of the Research Expert Panel, Workshop for Mission-Oriented Research (MOR) – Hybrid Energy System for Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP).
